Elder George W. Ward is the Son of the Late Deacon George W. Ward and Elder Viola Pierson Ward of Summerfield (Marion County), Florida. He was born in Ocala, Florida. His siblings included: biological brother of Wallace Ward, Sr. sisters: Dr. H. Janet Ward-Slater, Matilda Ward, Avis Ward, and Shenela Shena Ward Still. Upon the demise of his mother, his Father remarried and our siblings are Reverend Dennis Nash, Char Lacy, Donna Nash Anderson and Tooshdi Lacey.
Our family joined the Church of the Living God in Summerfield, FL in 1951. In 1954 my Mother had accepted the call into the Ministry and was ordained to Pastor a start-up Church in Weirsdale, Florida. My Dad’s father gave him the land to build the Church and Elder Willie Green of Apopka, Florida built the original Church. They Church membership grew rapidly and my parents built the existing sanctuary to accommodate a larger membership. The Church was allowed to be named by myself at the request of my mother. The Church is currently known as “Garden of Prayer Church of the Living God, Weirsdale, Florida.
My Mother and Father gave me many responsibilities in the Ministry and whatever they requested of us to do, there was no choice in the matter. During times of famine and scarcity, I worked a full time job and gave my entire paycheck to my parents for three years so that the mortgage payment, insurance payment and the needs of the church could be met.
The Lord saw fit to call my Mother home from labor to reward in December of 1979. My wife, Elder Lillie Delores Simmons was appointed to Pastor Garden of Prayer Church of the Living God. I was indeed honored to support my wife in Ministry at the Church that I grew up in as a child. My father had set an excellent example for me to support my wife because I had both seen and lived the example of my father in Ministry as a husband to a female pastor (his wife). God allowed us to make many sacrifices traveling for 12 years to build the Ministry at Garden of Prayer. There were many members from Daytona Beach, Florida that traveled with us every Wednesday Night for mid-week services and all day on Sunday for Sunday School, Morning Worship, Afternoon appointments, HYPBC and then Evening Worship. Oftentimes, we didn’t return home until midnight and after. I had a Van and my wife had a Van. We both drove Vans and they were packed with Bethune Cookman College Students, Faculty, Staff, my nieces and nephews.
In 1989 we birthed Emmanuel Church of the Living God in Daytona Beach, Florida on 7 acres of land that included a Sanctuary, Home, Fellowship Hall, Offices etc. It was previously owned by East Central Florida Episcopal Diocese. God blessed us to pay the Church off in four years, three years ahead of the mortgage terms. We outgrew that Church facility and God blessed us and granted us favor to secure favor in purchasing the current Church Campus at 54 South Ridgewood Avenue through Reverend Ernest Wheaton, Sr. and Evangelist Carol Wheaton.
At our Current campus because of the busy schedule of my wide with being the Founder and Presiding Prelate of the Florida Atlantic Diocese Church of the Living God; the Founding Pastor of Emmanuel Church of the Living God, Ormond Beach, FL’ The General Board of Bishops of the Church of the Living God; the Executive Board of Bishops of the Church of the Living God’ the Liaison Bishop of the Education Departments of the Church of the Living God and holding down a full time job as Director of Interns at the University of Central Florida and a full time Teacher in the Volusia County School System, my wife delegated me to oversee the day to day Ministry of Emmanuel which included:
