Emmanuel Church of the Living God
In the summer of 1978 through 1980, Elder Frances Williams Co-Pastored a (Mission) church in the City of Daytona Beach by the name of True Vine Church of the Living God on the corner of Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard and South Street. She was under the Bishopric of Bishop Sherman Williams of St. Petersburg, FL.
1979
Upon the demise of Elder Viola P. Ward in December, 1979, Pastor L. Delores Simmons Ward was called to Pastor the Garden of Prayer Church of the Living God in Weirsdale, FL. For approximately 2 ½ years, the Ward family traveled 65 miles (one way) to the Marion County church. (George, Delores, and daughter Andrea).
1981
Elder Frances Williams Smith and two little girls, (Nicole and Tamika) joined the congregation, and soon after, Reverend Lois Byrd became a part of the group traveling faithfully to worship at the Garden of Prayer.
1981-1989
Added to that number throughout the years were:

Sunday School classes would begin/start on the van and we would arrive at the Garden of Prayer ready for God’s Blessings in the Morning Worship Service. Over the years, Bible Study and Prayer was held sporadically in the homes of various saints under the leadership of our Pastor, Elder L. Delores Ward.
1989
In the spring of 1989, a core group of members met at Pastor Ward’s home to help plan the organization of a church group. The members consisted of:

Elder Frances Smith was named Assistant Pastor and Minister Lois Byrd was named Secretary.
In April 1989, the Annual Florida State Assembly which convened in Orlando, Florida commissioned and gave Elder Delores Ward an official appointment to begin a ministry/church in Daytona Beach, FL under the Bishopric of Bishop Lee Jones. Church services were held on alternate Tuesday’s at the John H. Dickerson Community Center. On alternate Sunday Evening, services were held on the World’s Most Famous Beach at the Howard Johnson Conference Center.
In August of 1989, a fund-raising banquet was held to support our endeavors. The guest speaker for the occasion was our “President General of the Churches of the Living God, Inc.” Bishop Jesse J. White, Sr. of Hartford, CT.
On December 20, 1990, keys were received for the church building at 1445 Flomich Avenue – Holly Hill/Daytona Beach, FL. Emmanuel moved in after signing a lease agreement and paying the amount of $10.00. This facility located at 1445 Flomich Avenue consisted of: 6.3 acres of land, a church building to include a sanctuary, offices, fellowship hall, kitchen and bathrooms and a home with two bedrooms/ two bathrooms.
February, 1990
The Emmanuel Church of the Living God was dedicated. The following Bishops were present: Bishop Jesse J. White, President General of Hartford, CT; Bishop Lee Jones of Swainsboro, GA and Bishop Joseph White of Columbus, Ohio.
April 1, 1990
Closing papers of the lst and 2nd mortgage agreements were signed. A $25,000.00 loan from the Orlando Episcopalian Diocese and $80,000.00 plus loan from First Union Bank of Florida were obtained.
May 25, 1990
A Business Meeting was held at Emmanuel Church of the Living God – 1445 Flomich Avenue – Daytona Beach, FL. The purpose of this meeting was for the organization of auxiliaries. The following business was conducted:
• Sunday School Superintendent -Reverend George Yearby
• Hospitality Department -Missionary Mabel Duncan/Sis. Smith
• Ushers -Sis. Theresa Yearby
• Holiness Young People Bible Class - Sister Terry Yearby
• Ministers & Missionary Board -Rev. George Yearby, President
-Minister Daisy Jackson, Vice President
1990-1992
God added daily unto the church; some were such as should be saved.
January 1992
The first payment of the mortgage held by the Orlando Episcopalian Diocese in the amount of $7,052.00 was due.
April, 1992
Orlando Episcopal Diocese agrees to forgive all interest, if the remainder of the $25,000.00 loan is paid in full by December 15, 1992.
October 1992
Elder Delores Ward saw the need for additional space within the sanctuary to accommodate the growing congregation. Additional pews were purchased and installed to accommodate this growth.
December 10, 1992
The balance of the $25,000 loan is paid in full( 2-payments) – 3 years ahead of time! God be praised.
February 1993
The celebration of the 2nd Mortgage Burning and Anniversary of Church Dedication. Special guests included: Bishop Jesse J. White, Sr., Mother C. Mae White, Bishop Lillian Ward, Elder Ruth Dennison and saints from all over the Church of the Living God attended to celebrate with us what the Lord had done for us.

• Participates in the Holly Hill Annual Christmas Parade.
Emmanuel won 1st place and have received commendations for participation.
• Conducts Bible Study & Ministerial Alliance Monthly Training Meetings.
• Conducts “Marathon-Shut-In” Services annually to include workshops, seminars.
• Organized and Implemented “Summer Tutorial Programs” to include free lunch program, field trips, etc.
• Organized and conducted workshops and training seminars for “District Ministerial Retreat” to include training for ministers, missionaries and deacons.
• Organized Annual “National Prayer Day” observance fellowship at Emmanuel.
• Organized Benevolence Society at Emmanuel.
• Organized “Christian Skating Fellowship and Shopping Tours for Emmanuel’s Youth Department.
• Organized various Educational Trips for Emmanuel Church family: (Marineland of Florida, Epcot, etc).
To various theme parks and museums.
• Organized Annual Nursing Home Visits; Hospital Ministries and Outreach Ministries.
• Organized Annual Thanksgiving Outreach Concert with free grocery give-a-ways.
• Organized Summer Out-reach service with youth ministers and choirs.
• Organized Annual Christmas Caroling throughout the church community.
• Provides for pre-marriage counseling of church members.
• Provides for Private Christian Counseling by appointments only.
• Organizes and arranges for Easter Sun-light service.
• Organized the 7-Last Utterances of Jesus Service.
• A Host of many other activities, workshops, seminars, tours, programs, services, and community projects.
On the first Sunday in January 2004 – Emmanuel relocated to its present facility located at 54 South Ridgewood Avenue – Ormond Beach, FL. Emmanuel Church of the Living God continues to be a Bible-based Family and Community ministry. It’s focus is on Salvation and Education with a very large and active youth department.
• At its current facility in Ormond Beach, the Church has opened its doors to Covenant Partner
that serves the needs of this Community.
